Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website, why we collect it, how we look after it and what your rights are. We have tried to keep it short and in plain English.
Who we are
This website is run by The Pickled Goose, 807-809 Garstang Road, Barton, Preston, PR3 5AA. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy, which means we decide how and why it is used.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we use your information, please phone us on 01772 802280 or write to us at the address above.
What we collect
Contact form enquiries. If you send us a message through the contact form on our website, we collect your name, email address, phone number and the message you send. Form submissions are received and stored by Netlify, our hosting provider, which passes your enquiry on to us.
Table bookings. Table bookings are made through a booking widget provided by ResDiary. When you book, the details you enter (such as your name, contact details, party size and any notes) are collected and handled by ResDiary under its own privacy policy, and shared with us so we can manage your booking.
Google Maps. Our website shows an embedded Google Map so you can find us. When the map loads, Google may collect information such as your IP address and set cookies, under Google’s own privacy policy.
Website analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our website. It sets cookies and collects anonymised usage data, such as the pages you view and your approximate location. It does not tell us who you are. We use it on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving our website. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Hosting. Our website is hosted by Netlify. Like most web hosts, Netlify automatically records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address and browser type, to keep the website running and secure.
Why we use your information and our lawful basis
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we must have a lawful basis for using your information. We use it:
- To reply to your enquiries. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- To take and manage table bookings. Our lawful basis is that this is needed to provide the booking you have asked for.
- To understand and improve our website. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in improving our website. You can object to this by blocking analytics cookies in your browser or using Google’s opt-out add-on.
- To keep our website running and secure. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in providing a working, safe website.
We do not sell your personal information and we do not use it for automated decision making.
How long we keep it
We keep contact form enquiries only for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry, and in any case for no longer than 12 months. Booking information is kept by ResDiary in line with its own retention policy. Analytics data is kept in Google Analytics for a limited period (no longer than 14 months) before it is automatically deleted.
Who we share it with
We only share your information with trusted service providers who help us run our website and business, and only as far as they need it. These are:
- ResDiary, which provides our table booking system.
- Google, which provides Google Analytics and Google Maps.
- Netlify, which hosts our website and receives and stores our contact form submissions.
Some of these providers may store or process information outside the UK. Where this happens, they are required to protect it with appropriate safeguards under UK data protection law.
We may also share information if we are required to by law.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Rectification, which means asking us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Erasure, which means asking us to delete your information.
- Restriction, which means asking us to limit how we use your information.
- Portability, which means asking for your information in a format you can take elsewhere.
- Objection, which means objecting to us using your information where we rely on our legitimate interests.
To make any of these requests, please phone us on 01772 802280 or write to us at The Pickled Goose, 807-809 Garstang Road, Barton, Preston, PR3 5AA. We will respond within one month. There is normally no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have used your information, please contact us first and we will do our best to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or by phoning 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website. Our website may use:
- Analytics cookies from Google Analytics 4, which collect anonymised usage data, such as pages viewed and approximate location, to help us understand how the website is used. We use these on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving our website.
- Third-party cookies from Google Maps and ResDiary, which may be set when the map or booking widget loads on the page.
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. You can also opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking some cookies may stop parts of the website, such as the map or booking widget, from working properly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date at the top.
